MIES VAN DER ROHE
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) is recognised as one of the four founding masters of twentieth century architecture - the other three being Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto (See image sets WPA, WQG and WPR respectively). Mies' great contribution to architecture was celebrated in 1999 by exhibitions at the Vitra Museum in Weil-am-Rhein, Germany and at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow; and in 2000, at both the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Canadian Institute of Architecture in Montreal.
